The incident occurred on Sunday, at around 6 p.m., in Świeradów-Zdrój. –The traffic patrol sent to the scene determined that the 31-year-old pedestrian was walking on the wrong side of an unlit road. The man was wearing no reflective elements and had no lighting – says Senior Constable Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds: – An 84-year-old driver of an Audi was travelling along the road. The pedestrian most likely lost his balance and fell in front of the approaching vehicle in a way that made any “defensive” reaction by the driver completely impossible.
As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell onto the road, suffering head injuries. An odour of alcohol was detected from the injured man. The driver was sober.
The emergency medical team called to the scene took the man to hospital. Police officers from the District Police Headquarters in Lubań are investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident.
Police officers:
We appeal to all pedestrians to make sure they are visible on the road. These simple measures can save lives, especially after dark and on unlit roads.
Every reflective item increases a pedestrian’s visibility several times over—which is why it is so important to use them whenever travelling outside built-up areas and on unlit roads. Let us take care of our own safety and that of others.
