The 67th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino was commemorated at the Sanctuary of the Assumption of the Mother of the Church on Wednesday, May 18. Soldiers of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade, as well as representatives of the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Commando Company and the “Baryt” Search and Rescue Unit, attended the solemn Mass. Students from military-profile classes also participated in the service celebrated by Rev. Prof. Waldemar Irek, former dean of the Silesian Military District, Rev. Dr. Andrzej Jarosiewicz and Rev. Sławomir Szelągowski, chaplain of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade.
The anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino coincided with the 20th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Rev. Dr. Andrzej Jarosiewicz. At the end of the Mass, Col. Jarosław Kraszewski, commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade, thanked the jubilarian for his support and pastoral service. Bogdan Fiałkowski and Andrzej Kobzda from the “Commando” association, as well as Jan Kusek, head of the “Baryt” unit in Złotoryja, also extended their congratulations to Father Jarosiewicz.
