It is particularly difficult when cars are parked on both sides of the road. Drivers have to manoeuvre, and two vehicles travelling in opposite directions have no chance of passing each other. In addition, some cars are parked on pavements, making life considerably more difficult for pedestrians. The required 1.5 metres of free space is often not left – a pushchair or an elderly person can barely squeeze through.

The main reasons are the lack of sufficient parking spaces and the steadily growing number of cars. The military opens additional parking spaces whenever possible, but demand still exceeds supply. The situation could become even worse – the planned transformation of the local regiment into a brigade means more positions, more soldiers and, unfortunately, even more cars.

We have already described the issue in the article Problems for drivers and pedestrians near the military unit

Councillor Sylwester Łasocha is dealing with the problem of parking spaces near the unit. He submitted interpellations on the matter and discussed the problem with the commander of the Bolesławiec military unit. In addition, on 19 October, the councillor organised a meeting with residents, attended by around 60 people from Artyleryjska, Andersa, Konopnickiej, Reja, Zagłoby and Korfantego streets. The military car park at Aleja Wojska Polskiego/Rzemieślnicza Street is currently being expanded.

If no further action is taken – such as creating new parking spaces or changing the traffic organisation – the area around the Bolesławiec military unit could soon experience a genuine traffic paralysis, along with problems such as emergency services being unable to get through.

Around two weeks ago, an ambulance and the fire brigade intervened in the area. Fortunately, the fire brigade managed to get through because the soldiers had already finished work that day, so there was no problem with a larger vehicle reaching the scene.

Shortly after the article was published, a reader contacted us, believing that opening the car park on the other side of the military unit would solve the problem of parking spaces on the Artyleryjska Street side.
