In October, prosecutors filed an indictment against two 21-year-olds from Głogów who, on July 29, 2025, at around 1:00 a.m., attacked a kebab restaurant in the city center. – One of the men – Jakub K. – will stand trial for an attack involving a machete, intent to cause the victim serious bodily harm and making threats, while the other – Oliwier Ch. – faces charges of damaging property together with his accomplice – explains Liliana Łukasiewicz, press spokeswoman for the Legnica District Prosecutor’s Office. – Both were charged with acting from hooligan motives.

What did investigators establish?

The investigation established that on the day of the incident, Jakub K. and Oliwier Ch., under the influence of alcohol, went to the aforementioned venue and began trying to break in through the rear door. The spokeswoman reports: – They punched and kicked it, damaging it.

At the time, the victim—the venue manager—and four employees were inside.

Alerted by the noise, the victim opened the front door and went outside to see where it was coming from. At that moment, Jakub K. began running toward him and attacked him, throwing a blow with his hand, but missed because the victim ducked.

Jakub K. was highly aggressive and verbally provoked the victim, continually advancing toward him and ignoring his requests to stop the attack. The prosecutor: – When he got close enough, he punched him in the face. At that point, employees came out of the venue holding broom handles and tried to drive the man away.

Jakub K. fled to the back of the venue.

After a while, the second attacker, Oliwier Ch., arrived there. He moved toward the victim, but upon seeing the other venue employees, he abandoned the attack, stepped back and handed the machete to Jakub K.

Jakub K. then advanced toward the victim with the machete in his hand, holding the dangerous weapon aloft. He swung it, directing the blow toward the victim’s chest and left side.

The victim managed to dodge the blow.

Meanwhile, the other venue employees fled inside, fearing the attacker with the machete. As the spokeswoman reports:

The victim fled toward the venue, with Jakub K. following him while holding the machete. He swung the machete again and directed the blow toward the victim’s back. The man managed to escape into the venue’s rooms.

When all the employees had hidden inside the venue and locked the entrance door, Jakub K. and Oliwier Ch. began banging and kicking the venue’s glass, damaging two display windows. At the same time, standing in front of the victim, who was hiding inside, Jakub K. twice made a throat-slitting gesture toward him; the second time, he was holding the machete in his hand.

The perpetrators then stopped the attack.

The result? K. will face charges including causing the attacked man injuries resulting in a health impairment lasting less than seven days and making punishable threats. Together with Ch., he will also face charges of damaging two display windows and the venue’s door. (Losses: PLN 12,000).

During the proceedings, the venue’s employees were interviewed as witnesses. The men unanimously stated that they had no conflict with the attackers and did not know why the attack occurred. The witnesses said they recognized the perpetrators as customers of their venue. They said they could not determine whether racist statements or insults had been made during the attack because of the language barrier.

When questioned as a suspect, Oliwier Ch. admitted committing the alleged offense and explained that he had been under the influence of alcohol on the day of the incident and did not remember what had happened. He also did not know why he had gone to the venue with a machete and was unaware of what he had done.

The suspect said that he only realized what had happened the previous day after being shown surveillance footage. He stated that he was unaware of the specific nationalities of the people working at the venue. The spokeswoman: – When questioned again, he admitted committing the offense, expressed remorse and stated that he had bought the machete several days earlier and taken it with him because he was afraid of other people who had threatened him with knives several days earlier.

When questioned as a suspect, Jakub K. admitted committing the alleged offenses and claimed not to remember because of alcohol abuse. He explained that he had left home with a machete and gone to the kebab venue. He stated that it was his machete, which he had bought for fishing.

The suspect explained that it was the first time he had taken it into town and that he could not say why he had brought it with him.

Questioned again at the prosecutor’s office, the suspect said he would like to apologize to the victims because he had not been in conflict with them and had been a regular customer of the venue. He stressed that the alcohol he had consumed had influenced his behavior. The prosecutor:

In further explanations, the suspect stated that the machete was not his but belonged to his friend Oliwier Ch., and that he had merely kept it at home at his friend’s request. Oliwier had allegedly bought the machete because someone had attacked him several days before the incident.

Both men were placed in pre-trial detention and remain held in the detention center in Wrocław. K. faces up to 20 years in prison, while Ch. could receive up to five years behind bars.
