The incident took place on Sunday, 12 October. At around 7:00 p.m., the Oława police duty officer received a report stating that a cyclist was riding along the emergency lane at kilometre 176 of the A4 motorway towards Wrocław. – Officers confirmed the report and established that the 26-year-old man had set out from Dzierżoniów to the area around Wrocław to visit a friend – reports Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – As he explained to the officers, he trusted the navigation, which “showed that it would be faster that way”.

The outcome? The police officers ended the dangerous journey by assisting the cyclist. The spokesperson: – The reckless cyclist was escorted by a police car to a place where he could safely leave the road.

The officers: – For riding a bicycle on the motorway, where the movement of bicycles, pedestrians and slow-moving vehicles is strictly prohibited, he was issued a fine.

And they remind everyone:

  • A motorway is no place for bicycles! Even if a GPS app indicates such a route, drivers are obliged to know and follow traffic regulations.
  • Only motor vehicles capable of reaching a speed of at least 40 km/h may travel on motorways and expressways.
  • If in doubt, it is worth planning the route in advance or using navigation settings that allow toll roads and motorways to be excluded.
  • Let us take care of our own safety and that of other road users. A moment of inattention or a wrong decision can end in tragedy.
