On the night from Saturday to Sunday, officers from the Patrol and Intervention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica noticed the driver of a Renault. – The man's driving suggested that he might be under the influence of alcohol – explains senior officer Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The police stopped the vehicle for a roadside check.
A 52-year-old Georgian national was behind the wheel. The spokesperson: – During the initial actions, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on him, while his slurred speech further confirmed their suspicions. A breathalyser test showed 1.68‰ of alcohol in his system.
That was not the end of the matter. A check of police systems revealed that the man was subject to as many as two court-imposed driving bans and was also wanted in order to return to his country.
The detainee appeared before the court under expedited proceedings. The court sentenced him to six months' imprisonment, suspended for two years, imposed a five-year driving ban and ordered him to pay PLN 10,000. The man was then handed over to officers of the Border Guard.
