As reported last week by rmf24.pl:

A 30-year-old driver from Bolesławiec County in Lower Silesia has as many as 23 court-ordered driving bans, including 15 currently active ones (...). He is an absolute record-holder in this respect in Poland.

An RMF FM reporter learned that our fellow resident received the ban after being stopped while driving drunk. But he was not particularly concerned about the court ruling. He continued to get behind the wheel. He was stopped by police many times, both in Lower Silesia and in Lubusz Voivodeship. (Waldemar Żurek, head of the justice ministry under Donald Tusk’s government, announced that the ministry would respond to the matter.)

However, the journalist from the nationwide outlet did not provide the most important information: that our fellow resident has been in prison since 2022. And that he will not be released until August 2038.

The 30-year-old from Bolesławiec County was already remanded in custody at the turn of July and August 2022. At the time, the charges involved both violating the driving ban and a series of property crimes: theft, burglary, and brazen theft. (Further convictions followed.)

In a conversation with istotne.pl Sebastian Woźniak, head of the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, said that the media portrayal of the RMF service’s reports was not entirely accurate. He also said that investigators had nothing to reproach themselves for in this case. The notorious record-holder from Bolesławiec County had in fact been removed from road traffic.
