On Tuesday, August 19, traffic police officers stopped a man riding a moped for inspection. The police station reported:

During the conversation, the officers already suspected that the rider might be under the influence of alcohol. A sobriety test showed nearly 2.5 per mille of alcohol in the 51-year-old’s system.

That was not the end of the matter. It turned out that the resident of Warta Bolesławiecka Commune had a court-ordered lifetime ban on driving motor vehicles.

The result? The man was arrested.

On August 21, the 51-year-old was brought by police officers from Kruszyn before the court in Bolesławiec. The court sentenced the offender to 6 months in prison without suspension, ordered him to pay PLN 10,000 to the Fund for Assistance to Victims, forfeited the equivalent value of the moped, worth PLN 2,500, and ordered him to cover the court costs.

The officers stated:

We remind you that driving motor vehicles while intoxicated is a serious crime that poses a tremendous threat both to the driver and to other road users.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
