The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in one of the localities in the Lwówek Śląski commune. – A police patrol noticed a moped whose rider was carrying a passenger without a helmet. During the inspection, it turned out that the rider was only a 14-year-old boy who did not have any licence to operate this type of vehicle – Lwówek police report.
His passenger, a 13-year-old friend, also put his health and life at risk by riding without the required helmet. Both told the police officers that they “only wanted to ride around the area.”
The officers placed the teenagers in their parents’ care. The family court will be notified of the case and will assess their conduct.
Police remind you:
- Operating a moped requires a moped card or an AM-category driving licence – the minimum age is 14, but the required licence must be obtained.
- Carrying a passenger on a moped requires both people to wear protective helmets. Not wearing a helmet is not only an offence; in the event of an accident, it can lead to tragic consequences.
- Parents should take an interest in how their children spend their time and what they use. The summer months encourage trips and fun, but safety must be the priority. A moment of recklessness can end in a serious injury or tragedy.
The police appeal to young people and parents: – Let’s be sensible on the road, because holidays should end with good memories, not an accident.
