The prosecutor’s office has filed an indictment against a police officer—a district officer from Wąsosz—who drove a patrol car in that town on November 27, 2024, while intoxicated. – One of the residents of the aforementioned town notified the police about the officer’s conduct – reports Liliana Łukasiewicz, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office. – It was established that, while still on duty, the police officer staggered as he walked through the town after leaving the vehicle. He was also unable to park the car properly, leaving it partly on the road. There was reasonable suspicion that the aforementioned individual had been intoxicated while driving the patrol car. An empty alcohol bottle was found in the vehicle.

The patrol that was notified tested the aforementioned individual’s sobriety. One and a half hours after leaving the vehicle, he had 1.68 mg/l of alcohol in his exhaled breath.

On November 29, the officer was charged with driving a vehicle while intoxicated. He admitted committing the alleged offense and gave explanations.

Spokesperson: – During the proceedings, an expert toxicology opinion was obtained. It found that, when the suspect was leaving the vehicle (as recorded by surveillance footage), he had at least 0.37 mg/l of alcohol in his exhaled breath (0.74 per mille), and therefore a concentration exceeding 0.25 mg/l, which means that the conduct constitutes a crime rather than a misdemeanor.

Driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol is punishable by three months to three years in prison, a driving ban for a period of three to 15 years, and a monetary payment of at least PLN 5,000 and as much as PLN 60,000 to the Fund for Aid to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance.

The case will be heard by the District Court in Głogów.
