– The indictment in this case was filed by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica in December 2023. The parents of the 2.5-month-old boy, 32-year-old Dorian G. and 27-year-old Katarzyna K., were accused of exposing their son on 4 August 2023 to the immediate danger of loss of life or serious damage to health, while the father was additionally accused of possessing drugs – says Liliana Łukasiewicz, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. – A doctor at the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Legnica notified the police that the boy was under the influence of narcotic substances.
The child was admitted to the intensive care unit. He was found to have neurological symptoms, including extreme agitation, a very rapid heartbeat and disorientation. He required repeated administration of high doses of sedatives. Due to the absence of a sucking reflex, he had to be hydrated intravenously. Following these procedures, the health of the minor victim improved.
Spokesperson: – At the time of the incident, the infant was in the father’s care. The latter, while taking a dose of methamphetamine, amphetamine and marijuana himself, accidentally contaminated the milk and administered the drug to the child with it. After the boy developed worrying symptoms, he took him to a doctor.
The child’s father was detained and, after charges were brought, was held in pre-trial detention for three months. Both parents had previously undergone addiction treatment and had been convicted several times, including for crimes against property and possession of narcotic substances. The child is currently in foster care.
The defendants faced a sentence of between 3 months and 5 years in prison. The prosecutor assessed the ruling of the Legnica District Court as justified.
