An unusual incident occurred in one of the stores in Lubań. – A Ukrainian citizen was caught stealing alcohol by a security employee, after which he barricaded himself in a staff room and attempted to escape through the suspended ceiling – reports Assistant Commissioner Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań. – The escape ended in failure when the ceiling panels collapsed under his weight, causing the man to fall directly into the arms of the security guard and bystanders.
The perpetrator was apprehended and handed over to a police patrol. It quickly turned out that the detained Ukrainian citizen was staying in Poland illegally.
Additionally, during the escape attempt, the foreign national damaged the store’s property, including metal profiles, ceiling panels and the ladder leading to the building’s roof.
The spokesperson: – The injured party estimated the value of the damage at PLN 6,000. After being taken to the police station in Lubań, the 33-year-old was fined PLN 500 for stealing alcohol.
The foreign national was then brought before the District Court in Lubań, where he was charged with property damage. By court decision, he was remanded in custody for six months.

At the same time, the District Police Commander in Lubań submitted a request to the Border Guard post in Zgorzelec for a decision obliging the foreign national to return to his country of origin.
