Road traffic officers operating as part of the SPEED group, while patrolling provincial road no. 333 toward Polkowice, measured the speed of the driver of a Toyota passenger car, who was travelling at 130 km/h on a section where the speed limit was 100 km/h. – The police officers decided to stop him for a roadside check. However, the driver ignored the officers’ order, accelerated and attempted to flee – reports Inspector Przemysław Ratajczyk from the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters. – The officers immediately began the pursuit.
During the escape, the driver failed to comply with traffic regulations, creating a real danger to other road users. The spokesperson said: – He drove in the middle of the road, occupying two lanes, and crossed the double solid line.
At one point, the driver turned onto a forest road. After travelling approximately one kilometre, he was stopped. The police officers immediately intervened against the man sitting behind the wheel. He turned out to be a 48-year-old resident of Polkowice municipality.
The officers detected the smell of alcohol on him. A breathalyser test showed 2.3 per mille of alcohol in his system. In addition, a check of police databases revealed that the 48-year-old had a court-imposed lifetime ban on driving all motor vehicles.
The extremely irresponsible man was taken to a police cell. After sobering up, he was brought before the District Court in Lubin. His case was heard under expedited proceedings. The 48-year-old received a sentence of one year in prison, a lifetime driving ban, a PLN 5,000 payment to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance, and forfeiture of the vehicle he had been driving.
