From 7 to 24 March this year, subunits of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade carried out tactical and live-fire tasks at the Land Forces Field Training Centre in Świętoszów. The final stage of the training coincided with celebrations of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade holiday, held on Tuesday, 22 March. On that day, Col. Jarosław Kraszewski, the Brigade commander, recalled the unit’s achievements.
The holiday celebrations also provided an opportunity to present decorations to soldiers and promotion certificates to officers. Moreover, Gen. Antoni Skibiński, former head of the Rocket Forces and Artillery, who attended the ceremony, presented Col. Kraszewski with a commemorative medal and a miniature of the artillerymen’s monument located in Toruń. The ceremony also featured speeches by Kornel Filipowicz, deputy mayor of Bolesławiec, and retired Col. Roman Kłosiński, former commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade.
The sports and defence competition for students in military-oriented classes was also concluded. Ten school teams from Bolesławiec, Zgorzelec, Lubań, Złotoryja and Rakowice Wielkie took part in the tournament. In the girls’ category, the winners were students from the Vocational and General Education Complex in Zgorzelec. The team from the Vocational School Complex in Złotoryja came second, while the team from the Upper-Secondary School Complex in Lubań finished third. In the boys’ category, the students from the Upper-Secondary School Complex in Lubań proved the best. The team from the Vocational School Complex in Złotoryja came second. Third place went to students from the Economic and Technical School Complex in Rakowice Wielkie. The competition was co-organized by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Company “Commando”.
