– Police officers from Bolesławiec are making every effort to ensure that investigative activities aimed at identifying and apprehending perpetrators of crimes are carried out to the highest possible standard. Officers use every available technique that may help solve cases, including those that have remained unresolved for years – says asp. szt. Łukasz Dutkowiak from the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters.

He adds: – This time, a trace secured during police activities carried out by a forensic technician at the scene in 2014 played a key role in identifying the perpetrator of the crime. Eleven years have passed, and the case has been solved; it concerned a rape that took place in February 2014.

He also adds: – It was also established that the man had stolen a handbag containing documents and bank cards.

The woman who was the victim at the time did not know the perpetrator. The activities carried out by a team of officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, as well as the evidence collected, did not provide grounds to arrest the suspect or charge him.

The officers explain:

A biological trace was located on a cigarette butt secured years ago, and DNA was extracted. However, the man to whom this profile belonged was not identified at the time. The situation changed dramatically because, at the beginning of 2025, an expert opinion based on biological tests conducted at the police laboratory of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław made it possible to unequivocally identify the perpetrator of the crime.

Analysis of comparative material collected from a Bolesławiec resident who was arrested for an offense against property, together with the isolation of the perpetrator’s DNA profile from 2014, produced a positive result.

Police officer:

The suspect, who is now 45 and is serving a prison sentence, confessed to the offense with which he was charged. In the past, he had already been convicted of other sexual offenses and offenses against property.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded the aggressor in custody for three months.
