– Officers of the Independent Prevention Police Subunit in Legnica were on duty in the Bogatynia municipality. While carrying out their duties in Sieniawka, the police officers noticed a Škoda passenger car whose driver was not wearing a seat belt. On this basis, the officers decided to stop the vehicle for a roadside inspection – reports Senior Sergeant Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – For this purpose, they activated their light and sound signals, thereby obliging the driver to stop the vehicle.
However, he did not stop; on the contrary, he accelerated sharply and turned onto a dirt road. After driving 200 metres, he performed a turn ineptly, causing the vehicle to stop across the road.
– This moment was an excellent opportunity to stop the young driver – the spokesperson adds. – So, when the police car was close enough to the Škoda, the officers ran outside and prevented the driver, as well as two passengers, from possibly attempting to flee.
The driver was unable to explain his irresponsible behaviour. Police officer:
Moreover, during his statement he failed to maintain a logical sequence of events. His condition therefore indicated that, at the time of the incident, he might have been under the influence of drugs. The experienced officers’ suspicions were confirmed quite quickly, as the device indicated the presence of amphetamine in the man’s body. During further questioning, the man confirmed that he was under its influence.
That was not the end of it. It emerged that the vehicle driven by the man did not have the mandatory insurance. What is more, the officers became suspicious of the age he declared.
As it turned out, the 29-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County gave his brother’s details. He presumably wanted to conceal the fact that he himself had as many as nine active court bans on driving motor vehicles. To make matters worse, the officers confirmed that the local man had been wanted for some time in connection with ongoing proceedings.
The detainee was taken to a police cell. Officers:
We remind you that disregarding court judgments, including those concerning bans on driving motor vehicles, constitutes a serious violation of criminal law. Every such case is treated with full firmness. The same applies to attempting to flee from a roadside inspection, which not only increases the driver’s criminal liability but also raises the risk of serious accidents in which innocent road users may be harmed.
