As reported by the Legnica police:
Chojnów police officers worked nonstop to clarify the case because the teenagers decided to have some fun!!!
On Easter Sunday, the Legnica police received a report of a possible boy’s abduction in Okmiany, near the railway station. Shortly afterward, dramatic posts appeared online: “A white van is kidnapping children! Be careful!”
Officers: – The internet was abuzz. Residents were concerned, and the media picked up the story.
The police immediately took action – for two days they questioned witnesses, analyzed surveillance footage and established every detail.
What turned out to be the case?
Investigators:
It was a “joke.” The 19-year-olds staged their friend’s kidnapping for fun. It was not a trivial matter. This irresponsible stunt mobilized the emergency services, caused panic and involved enormous resources. Instead of patrolling the streets and protecting those who might genuinely have needed help, officers were dealing with something that should never have happened.
And they appeal:
- Do not share unverified information!
- Do not make false reports!
- Think before you share something!
