Traffic police conducted intensified road checks throughout Zgorzelec County. – During the operation, officers decided to stop the rider of a Suzuki motorcycle for a traffic check. To do so, the police activated visual and audible signals requiring the man to stop – reports Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – However, he suddenly accelerated and began to flee.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle rider turned onto an unpaved road and, a moment later, abandoned his vehicle there along with his female passenger.

The man tried to escape on foot into the forest. Without success. He was apprehended fairly quickly. The spokesperson said: – A check of the data in police systems confirmed that the 36-year-old had three active court bans on driving motor vehicles. Because the detained man was not maintaining a logical sequence of events while speaking, he was tested for the presence of drugs in his body.

He added: – The experienced officers’ suspicions were confirmed, and for that reason the 36-year-old was taken to a medical facility to have blood drawn.

Failing to stop for a traffic check, driving under the influence of drugs and driving a vehicle despite a court-imposed ban are all crimes. The detained 36-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
