The District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra has filed an indictment with the local District Court against a 46-year-old resident of Złotoryja County. He is suspected of driving while intoxicated and offering Police officers a financial benefit. – The investigation established that on the night of January 17–18, 2025, officers from Police Station II in Jelenia Góra received a telephone report that a Mercedes passenger car was traveling along Wolności Street in Jelenia Góra, driven by an intoxicated man – reports Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.

The police officers immediately stopped the vehicle for a roadside inspection. It was being driven by a 46-year-old man. Both the driver’s behavior and the strong smell of alcohol confirmed the report.

The driver was detained. A blood test showed that he had 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his blood.

While the suspect was being transported by police car to the station, he offered the officers PLN 10,000 each and a discount on holidays in Thailand in exchange for discontinuing further proceedings. Although the officers warned the 46-year-old that making such an offer constituted a crime, he repeated the bribe offer three times.

Prosecutor:

The suspect admitted to driving while intoxicated. However, he denied making a bribe offer to the Police officers who stopped him. He explained that he had been drunk and did not remember the incident.

The suspect, who had not previously been convicted, was placed under police supervision. He now faces up to 10 years in prison. In addition, the prosecutor requested the forfeiture of the equivalent value of the aforementioned Mercedes—PLN 141,197.
