The incident occurred on 3 April this year, in the early morning hours. Jeleniogórska police headquarters:
At around 7:00 a.m., officers received a report about a driver who had hit a property fence on Mickiewicza Street in Szklarska Poręba with a Škoda and then driven away towards Jelenia Góra.
The officers immediately took action and began searching for the perpetrator. A moment later, they spotted the vehicle in question. It had stopped behind the retaining wall it had previously hit. When the officers approached, they noticed that the Škoda’s driver was asleep.
The police immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from the man. The test showed that he had a blood alcohol level of 2‰. The 30-year-old was detained and taken to police custody.
Police headquarters: – In conversation with the officers, he tried to downplay the situation. He explained that he had not consumed strong alcohol, but only light sparkling wine, which, in his opinion, should not have affected his ability to drive. As he admitted, he had been drinking until 6:00 a.m., and got behind the wheel just an hour later.
He now faces up to 5 years in prison. Police once again appeal for caution and responsibility behind the wheel:
Even a small amount of alcohol can significantly affect a person’s ability to drive, and the consequences of such recklessness can be tragic.
