In February, an order for payment was issued in the case of the fatal shooting of a cat. The court found the 67-year-old guilty and imposed a PLN 7,000 fine, as well as ordering him to pay PLN 2,000 in compensation to the Animal Aid Association in Bolesławiec.
The Bolesławiec district prosecutor Sebastian Woźniak deemed this a grossly lenient sentence and lodged an objection to the ruling; consequently, it has lost its force. The trial will start again.
It is also known that the prosecution will seek a significantly harsher sentence.
Let us recall. The incident took place on Wednesday, November 27, in Kraśnik Dolny. Bolesławiec police officers received a report that a dead cat had been found on one of the properties.
Initial findings indicated that the animal may have died after being shot with an air rifle. Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn detained a man suspected of committing the crime. The officers secured a weapon belonging to a resident of Bolesławiec Municipality, as well as the cat’s carcass.
Procedural activities confirmed that several hours before the dead cat was found, the suspect had shot at the animal while it was on his property. After being shot, the cat fled.
The 67-year-old was charged with fatally shooting a cat, an offense punishable by up to three years in prison.
