On 26 February 2025, the duty officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters was notified that 16 artillery fuzes, 2 mortar grenades and 2 artillery shells from World War II had been found in Piechowice.
– Until the bomb-disposal specialists from the Military unit in Bolesławiec arrived, the site was secured by Jelenia Góra police officers – reports sub-inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters.
And she reminds us:
Despite the passage of time, finds of this kind remain very dangerous. They must not be unearthed, moved or dismantled. Such irresponsible behavior may result in death or serious bodily injury. If an unexploded ordnance item is found, the nearest police unit should be contacted as soon as possible. We appeal for caution and prudence.
