Drunk drivers pose a deadly threat to everyone using the roads. Despite the Police's constant appeals and tragic media reports, there are still people who get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.
A 54-year-old from Gaworzyce joined the ranks of irresponsible drivers. – The intoxicated man got behind the wheel of his Volkswagen – reports junior inspector Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the Polkowice District Police Headquarters. – Fortunately, the state of intoxication caused the driver to suddenly and unexpectedly feel the need to sleep. The car's driver's seat became the bed for this road user, while the middle of the intersection in his town became his bedroom.
To detain the 54-year-old, the police officers first had to wake him up. The spokesman said: – After regaining contact with reality, the man was tested with a breathalyzer, which showed a reading of 3.7 per mille of alcohol.
The officers first seized the Gaworzyce resident's driving licence and then his car. The junior inspector said:
The vehicle, worth PLN 20,000, was taken by tow truck to the police car park, where it was ultimately secured against a future penalty.
After sobering up, the 54-year-old was charged. He faces up to 3 years in prison, a substantial fine, a driving ban, and the forfeiture of property equivalent in value to the vehicle seized.
