Officers from the Police Station in Karpacz are conducting proceedings concerning fraud in the rental of an apartment in the city. Jeleniogórska police provide the details:
A resident of Mazowieckie Voivodeship found an attractive rental offer on one of the internet portals and contacted the advertiser. After obtaining detailed information, he paid a deposit of over PLN 1,200, reserving the apartment for the period from 7 to 16 February this year.
Upon arriving at the location, it turned out that no one offered accommodation at the indicated address and that he had fallen victim to fraud.
How not to get scammed?
The police advise:
- Let us carefully and thoroughly check accommodation offers. Scammers operate by posting highly attractive offers online, on auction portals or fabricated websites, featuring excellent locations, underpriced rates and photos of beautiful rooms, apartments or cottages. Fraudsters offering nonexistent accommodation request a deposit or payment of the full amount.
- It is recommended that the deposit be paid into a bank account; any other form or proposal for transferring money should arouse our suspicion. Ask for an invoice, bill or receipt for the deposit paid and retain all documentation related to the transaction, as well as all correspondence concerning the reservation.
- Let us remember that caution and prudence can protect us from losing money and disappointment.
