– On January 21, 2025, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Głogów filed a motion for 30 days of pretrial detention from the date of arrest for 32-year-old Dawid Z., who drove a Land Rover through the streets surrounding the market square in Głogów on the night of January 18, 2025, and is suspected of intentionally creating a direct danger of a land-traffic disaster threatening the life and health of many people – prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, reports. – The driver’s reckless driving was captured in several recordings from surveillance cameras and the mobile phones of passers-by. The perpetrator fled the scene and is currently in hiding.

She adds: – In the prosecutor’s assessment, it is obvious that the suspect is aware of the criminal proceedings under way and that he is wanted in connection with them. Therefore, the act of turning off his phone, failing to return to his place of residence and effectively hiding the vehicle involved in the incident should be understood as an expression of his intention to hide from law-enforcement authorities.

As investigators emphasize, the motion for detention results from a “justified fear that the suspect will obstruct the proceedings by preventing procedural activities involving him from being carried out,” as well as from “the suspect’s repeated prior convictions, for whom fines, as well as custodial and non-custodial sentences, have previously been imposed.” The motion will be considered by a court in Głogów. If the wanted man is placed in pretrial detention, an arrest warrant will be issued for him.
