Update

Junior Warrant Officer Bartłomiej Sobczyszyn, deputy press officer of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters:

(…) The duty officer of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters did not receive the report in question. Moreover, during New Year's Eve night (6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.), 40 incidents requiring police intervention were recorded in Bolesławiec County. Over the course of the day (December 31, 2024), more than 80 people were checked for identification, nearly 20 vehicles were inspected, and one person was arrested.

A Reader wrote to us: “Please issue an appeal to the Police. On December 31, at around 11:45 p.m., in the market square in Bolesławiec, on the side of the entrance to the town hall, a group was throwing firecrackers at people and under the benches where people were sitting. One hit my friend in the ankle. After being reprimanded, the group of people started trying to beat us up.”

He added: – There should be more police patrols on a day like this, but only one police car drove by.

Fortunately, the Reader's friend did not suffer more serious injuries. The person reporting the incident said: “It was an explosive firecracker; it only burned her ankle, but at home we quickly applied cold-water compresses, so there was no need to call an ambulance.”

He stressed again:

It is just that the Police should have been there earlier on a night like that, especially since there are cameras there and many people had already gathered by 11:30 p.m. We did not even wait for the fireworks display because we wanted to return home as quickly as possible and see what condition our friend's ankle was in.

He added that the people throwing the firecrackers appeared to be 14–17 years old.

We asked the Bolesławiec police about the matter. We will publish the response as soon as we receive it.
