The incident occurred on 30 November this year. – At 12:50 a.m., officers from the Traffic Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica, while patrolling Korczaka Street, noticed the driver of a VW vehicle, who immediately turned into Chojnowska Street upon seeing the police car – reports Senior Constable Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Lower Silesian Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The officers activated their light and sound signals to stop the vehicle for a traffic check.

The man behind the wheel, seeing the signals given by the officers, accelerated sharply. The spokesperson said: – The police immediately set off in pursuit. The man travelled at considerable speed through the streets of Legnica towards the S3 expressway. He then turned around at a roundabout, driving in the wrong direction, and entered Chojnowska Street again, heading towards the city centre.

A moment later, he lost control of the vehicle and hit properly parked vehicles. He also tried to escape on foot, but to no avail. He was detained.

Senior Constable A. Pieprzycka:

After checking the 22-year-old's details in police information systems, it turned out that he had two active bans on driving all motor vehicles. A breathalyser test showed that the driver was sober. The officers placed the detained Ukrainian citizen in police custody. The man has already been charged.
