The Bolesłavia Inter-School Sports Club celebrated 45 years of activity on Friday, 14 January, at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre. Among those attending the ceremony were Marcin Przychodny, director of the Sports and Recreation Department of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship; Deputy Mayor of Bolesławiec Kornel Filipowicz; Andrzej Szczesny of the Polish Athletics Association; Paweł Olszański of the Lower Silesian Sports Federation; Deputy County Head Stanisław Chwojnicki; and Józef Pokładek, head of the Bolesławiec City Council.

A Little History

In December 1964, a founding meeting of the District Branch of the School Sports Association was held in Bolesławiec. It was decided that a sports club should be created to bring together talented young people from primary and secondary schools. At the end of 1965, three activists—Eugeniusz Jankowski, Stanisław Merdas and Jan Kulczycki—established the Bolesłavia Inter-School Sports Club.

Various sections operated at the club from the very beginning. The first was the swimming section, established as early as February 1966. Its traditions were later continued by the Masters group. In mid-April 1966, the athletics section began operating, and it continues to this day. You can read more about Bolesłavia’s history HERE.

The Present

Today, the club’s only section is athletics. Almost from the beginning of Bolesłavia’s existence, its athletes have served as ambassadors of sport in Bolesławiec, achieving significant success throughout Poland.

The club is a regionally recognised athletics training centre and a recipient of awards from the Lower Silesian Athletics Association and the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Bolesłavia brings together children and young people from primary, lower-secondary and upper-secondary schools throughout Bolesławiec County.
