– A traffic patrol from Lubin noticed on one of the city’s streets a woman driving a Ford passenger car whose driving style indicated that she might be under the influence of alcohol – explains junior inspector Przemysław Ratajczyk from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The officers immediately decided to stop the vehicle for a roadside check. To do so, the uniformed officers activated their lights and siren, signalling to the driver to pull onto the shoulder. However, she did not respond to the police officers’ instructions. Only when the officers blocked her path did she stop the car.
The vehicle was being driven by a 25-year-old woman, while her two children, aged 4 and 6, were sitting in the back. The spokesperson said: – Unfortunately, the children were not wearing seat belts, and the car did not have the child seats required by law. It was the middle of the night.
It turned out that the woman had got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol; a test showed more than 0.6 per mille of the substance in her system. The officers confiscated the woman’s driving licence.
Police officer:
As the 25-year-old had no one to whom she could entrust her children, they were placed in the care of an emergency care facility in Lubin. Their mother, meanwhile, was detained and taken to a police cell. After sobering up, she was charged with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
She now faces up to three years in prison.
