Criminal investigators from Jelenia Góra identified and then arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of attempting to steal and damaging railway infrastructure components.
– On 27 August this year, the man tried to steal components forming part of the railway line in Jelenia Góra – reports podinsp. Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters. – The 35-year-old used an angle grinder to cut the catenary system’s contact wires, disrupting its operation. In this way, he caused losses amounting to PLN 15,000.
That was not the end of it. The spokeswoman said: – Officers determined that he had tried to steal railway infrastructure components in Stara Kamienica, on Sobieskiego Street in Jelenia Góra and on Krakowska Street. Moreover, it emerged that the Jelenia Góra resident had committed similar acts in Złotoryja County, where his actions caused losses of approximately PLN 100,000.
The vandal has already been charged. He could face up to eight years in prison.
