Since 2 March 2024, DCS has been named after Mr Julian Gozdowski – the legendary creator of the Piast Race, the largest cross-country skiing event in our country and a member of the elite Worldloppet series. For decades, he worked tirelessly to popularize cross-country skiing and develop the trails around Polana Jakuszycka.

A top-level sports centre

This year, among other events, we hosted the Open European Junior Biathlon Championships. Together with the International Biathlon Junior Cup, it was 13 days full of winter excitement, with nearly 300 competitors from 32 countries taking part, including Brazil, the United States and Turkey. In addition to individual races and sprints, a mass start involving 60 competitors was held for the first time in the history of the championships. The FIS FESA Continental Cup competition also took place in January.

Our facility has become a training base for many professional clubs and national teams. These include local sports clubs such as MKS Karkonosze Sporty Zimowe Biegi, Klub Sportowy "Szrenica", UKN Melafir Czarny Bór, MKS Duszniki-Zdrój and Uks Muflon. We also welcome guests from abroad, including Klub Biathlonu Beroun, Jilemnice, Praha and Fachausschuss Biathlon-Skiverband Sachsen e.V.

The teams training here include the A and B squads of the Polish Biathlon Association, the Polish Ski Association’s cross-country skiing and Nordic combined team, as well as Czech biathlon and cross-country skiing representatives. Conditions will be even better next winter season thanks to the construction of the first stage of a snowmaking system, which will cover the ski stadium at Polana Jakuszycka.
The summer holidays were also exceptionally intensive, thanks to sports clubs that used our infrastructure to organize training sessions and preparation camps. Among others, we hosted the WTS Sparta Wrocław juniors, Kamil Chanas basketball camps, WKS Śląsk Wrocław handball and WKS Śląsk Wrocław Amp Futbol.

A place for everyone – from athletes to tourists

In February 2024, DCS received a B licence from the International Biathlon Union. This opens up the possibility for the centre to organize the European Senior Championships and the Junior World Championships in biathlon.

Polana Jakuszycka is not only a sports centre, however. Our facility is open all year round, offering a wide range of activities for both athletes and tourists. Events such as the iconic Piast Race and Gravel Adventure Poland attract professionals and amateurs alike, highlighting the universal character of DCS.

In winter, we attract enthusiasts of cross-country skiing, biathlon and other winter sports, while in summer, hiking and cycling trails offer tourists extraordinary views of the Jizera Mountains and the surrounding area. With numerous attractions, such as a sports equipment rental service, swimming pool, roller-skating track, football pitch, sports hall, fully equipped gym and climbing wall, Polana Jakuszycka is a place worth visiting.

For everyone, without barriers

We make sure that our facility is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. The infrastructure is fully adapted to the needs of every guest, while specialist equipment available for hire makes the mountains accessible to all.

A future full of possibilities

We are constantly working to develop our offer by introducing new initiatives, such as training sessions with Olympians, the jazz concerts “Music and Sport” and art workshops called “Painting on the Meadow”. Polana Jakuszycka is also a place conducive to astrotourism. Thanks to the Izera Dark-Sky Park, visitors can admire the starry sky in exceptionally favourable conditions while taking part in events from the “Cosmos on the Meadow” series.
