The incident occurred on Sunday, August 18 this year, in the afternoon. As reported by the Gniezno County Police Headquarters:
While carrying out official duties on the basis of information received from the Bureau of International Police Cooperation, officers from the Gniezno County Police Headquarters stopped a 32-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County driving a Mercedes Sprinter on national road No. 15 in Jankowo Dolne and recovered the stolen vehicle.
He added: – At the place where the Mercedes was found, investigators, together with a forensic technician, secured a number of traces and prepared photographic documentation. The recovered vehicle will soon be returned to its owner.
Our countryman was taken to the Gniezno County Police Headquarters, where procedural actions were carried out against him.
On August 20, the prosecutor presented the detainee with charges of:
- stealing a Mercedes Sprinter;
- driving the vehicle with registration plates not assigned to it;
- driving a motor vehicle despite a court ban issued by the District Court in Bolesławiec.
The prosecutor placed the suspect under police supervision and imposed a ban on leaving the country. The 32-year-old faces up to 10 years in prison for the crimes he committed.
