– Last Sunday, the duty officer was informed that a young man had committed a robbery in one of the shops in the city center. A police patrol was immediately sent to the scene – reports junior warrant officer Anna Tersa of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica.
She adds:
According to the police, the perpetrator attacked a woman who was doing her shopping. He approached her from behind and held a knife to her throat, then took her wallet, which contained PLN 10 and the victim’s documents.
This was not enough loot for him, so he demanded that the shop assistants hand over the cash from the register. The spokesperson said: – When the shop employees refused to hand over the cash, the enraged man began striking the cash register with the knife, trying to open it. Frightened off by another customer, he fled, taking several beers and chewing gum with him.
The police took steps to arrest the perpetrator. Junior warrant officer A. Tersa:
A citizen who reported to officers that a strangely behaving man was sitting on a bench in the city center significantly helped the search. It turned out to be the robbery suspect, who had already changed his clothes so as not to be recognized.
The 25-year-old resident of Legnica was arrested and placed in police custody. He has already been charged, and the court – at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica and the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica – remanded him in custody for three months.
The young man could face up to 20 years in prison.
