Despite numerous appeals, campaigns and police warnings, serious road incidents continue to occur on the region’s roads.
In view of all these tragic accidents, Lower Silesian police officers once again appeal to all road users to observe safety rules and strictly comply with the applicable regulations.
Let us remember that vehicle drivers must exercise particular caution when joining traffic, changing lanes or changing direction, and must look in their rear-view mirrors every time. A motorcyclist, moped rider or even cyclist may approach at any moment.
Let us also remember that overtaking is permitted only in designated places. Before beginning this manoeuvre, we should make sure that it will not endanger road safety. Let us not cut corners or move into the opposite lane. A moment of inattention may end in a serious accident. It is also important to adjust speed to the road conditions and applicable limits. Maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead is also extremely important, particularly on expressways, where our vehicle covers a considerable distance in just one second. At the same time, let us pay attention to road signs.
We also remind all drivers that overtaking before or on a pedestrian crossing, as well as passing a vehicle travelling in the same direction that has stopped to give pedestrians right of way, are extremely serious offences that often contribute to fatal accidents. Therefore, let us remember always to exercise particular caution when approaching a pedestrian crossing. When we see a pedestrian, let us slow down so that, should they enter the roadway, we can safely stop our vehicle. Let us always keep in mind the safety of ourselves, our loved ones and other road users.
Let us respect traffic regulations so that each of us can reach our destination safely.
