The incident occurred in Wałbrzych County. – The situation took place in the morning, when the elderly man decided to air out his apartment, leaving the door open. His son, seeing an opportunity, entered and stole an envelope containing PLN 14,000 – reports asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters. – The victim quickly realized that his money was missing and immediately notified the police.
The circumstances indicated that the perpetrator could have been his son, who had started spending a substantial amount of cash despite being unemployed.

The police immediately began searching for the suspect. While carrying out activities at the reported location, officers determined that the man was hiding on his father’s property, more precisely—in the chicken coop. An unusual situation unfolded at the scene. The man refused to leave the chicken coop despite the officers’ orders. Faced with his resistance, the officers had to use direct coercive measures to persuade him to leave his hiding place.

While he was being led out of the chicken coop, a large amount of cash fell from the man’s pocket. The officers managed to secure most of the stolen money, which was undoubtedly a relief to the victim’s father. It also turned out that the man was heavily intoxicated, as a test showed nearly 4 per mille of alcohol in his system.

After the 39-year-old was taken to the police station, he first had to sober up. He was then charged with theft, which may now result in serious legal consequences. Under the applicable regulations, the perpetrator faces up to 5 years in prison for such an act.

This incident is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of basic safety rules in our homes. An open door is an invitation not only to fresh air but, unfortunately, also to potential thieves. Even in safe, familiar neighborhoods, it is worth remaining cautious.
