In June 2019, we reported that Kamil Barczyk had been appointed director of the county hospital in Bolesławiec. What has been achieved during this time? We asked Szpital św. Łukasza for a summary:

Hospital in figures:

  • more than a twofold increase in the number of hospitalizations;
  • nearly a threefold increase in the number of specialist consultations;
  • a twofold increase in laboratory tests; by the end of 2023, 1,700,000 tests had been performed;
  • nearly twice as many employees—990 people, including 191 doctors;
  • a fivefold increase in fixed assets;
  • the opening of 10 new specialist clinics; there are currently 22.

The total amount of subsidies received from 2019 through the end of 2023: 70,734,660.93.

Moreover, the past five years were marked by investments and so-called soft activities. The facility:

The total value of funds allocated to investments completed and underway since 2019 amounts to more than 120,000,000.00:

  • expanded the hospital with a modular building;
  • opened a new operating block and OAIiT, emergency department, Dialysis Station, Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery Department, and hospital outpatient specialist clinics at a new location;
  • built connecting passages between the buildings;
  • purchased, among other things, an angiograph, a CT scanner, 2 MRI scanners, a Versius orthopedic robot, a 4K ICG laparoscope, an extracorporeal gas exchange system—ECMO/ECCO2R—as well as equipment for the procedure room in the obstetrics and gynecology department enabling people with disabilities to use it, along with many other investments in specialist equipment;
  • modernized the Endoscopy Unit, Hospital Pharmacy, Pediatric Department, and Neurology Department, and established the Center for Stroke Prevention and Treatment;
  • revitalized the area around the hospital, built and replaced elevators, modernized medical gas systems, and built an inclusive playground for children;
  • established a molecular biology laboratory for genetic/PCR testing;
  • modernized basement rooms for the kitchen, changing rooms, laundry, and storage areas;
  • renovated stairwells throughout the hospital;
  • replaced ambulances with new ones.

Soft activities:

  • The hospital received 2 main awards in the “Healthy Future—Inspirations” competition.
  • The Center for Stroke Prevention and Treatment and the ZRM of Szpital św. Łukasza in Bolesławiec received Diamond (the highest) and Platinum statuses in the ESO Angels awards in 2022 and 2023.
  • Numerous White Saturdays and Bolesławiec Pediatric Days were organized.
  • Numerous prestigious conferences were organized, including the Off-Site Meeting of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Society of Surgeons in Bolesławiec, the 1st “Mom & Baby” Obstetric Forum, the 1st Healthy Institutional Nutrition Conference, and the Internal Medicine Interdisciplinary Conference.
  • Kamil Barczyk, director of Szpital św. Łukasza in Bolesławiec, was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit for work in support of healthcare.
  • The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity donated a modern MALDI-TOF device, which went to the Laboratory Diagnostics Center at Szpital św. Łukasza in Bolesławiec (worth more than PLN 1 million).
  • Szpital św. Łukasza in Bolesławiec was recognized among the top three best hospitals in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in the “Giving Birth Humanely 2023” ranking.
  • A number of prevention programs were carried out, including prevention programs for people aged 40+, diabetes, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease (“CHUK”), breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and stroke.
