The incident occurred on May 9 this year, at around 6 p.m. – Police officers from the Police Station in Kowary, while responding to a call at the intersection of Kamiennogórska, Jeleniogórska and Tokarska streets in Bukowiec, noticed a running cow that was trying to ram a cyclist. To prevent a tragedy, the officers activated their lights and sirens, which scared the animal away – reports Deputy Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters. – The officers informed the duty officer about the situation.

She adds:

During the officers’ actions, the owner was identified; he was also searching for the heifer with other people. In the meantime, the duty officer at the Jelenia Góra police headquarters received calls from concerned and frightened residents who had managed to escape the animal’s attack. It appeared near a discount grocery store and a health centre in Wojków, where many people were present, and it also ran along the middle of the road, posing a danger to drivers.

The officers tried to stop it, but for the safety of bystanders they took measures appropriate to the situation. While fleeing, the animal ran onto private property and destroyed the owners’ fences, eventually entering a stream. When it turned out that an obstacle in the form of a culvert had appeared in its path, the animal headed towards a girl walking along the road.

The spokesperson said:

Despite attempts to bring the situation under control and control the animal, its aggressive behaviour and the potential risk to people’s lives and health forced a police officer to use his service weapon to incapacitate it.

A prosecutor from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra and a veterinarian were present at the scene. Police are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the incident in detail.
