In an email to our editorial office, our Reader wrote: “The vandals targeted benches with tables and roofs in a clearing near Piastów Street that bothered no one. These benches were already so old, but apparently someone did not like them and decided to destroy them. The rubbish bin was too far away as well—it was also torn out. And the information board made an excellent target for throwing things at.” They added: “I have a question: Why don’t municipal police officers go there (and if they do, it is rarely) and catch the children showing off after drinking alcohol?”
“It is not true that we rarely walk there,” denies Emil Zając, commander of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police. “Municipal police officers patrol this place at least three times a week. What is more, we are always there on weekends.”
This is not the first act of vandalism to occur in this clearing. Last year, municipal police officers apprehended vandals. This time, the damage exceeded PLN 250, so the incident was classified as a crime. The Bolesławiec police took up the case. Actions are currently under way to establish the perpetrators’ identities and arrest them. The vandals face up to 5 years in prison.
