On 31 March Zofia Kot, the oldest resident of Nowa and co-founder of the local KGW, celebrated her 94th birthday.
KGW:
Mrs. Zofia was born in Poręby Kupieńskie, in the former Rzeszów Voivodeship. She came to Lower Silesia to visit her sister, who had previously settled in Nowa with her entire family. It was here that she also met her husband, with whom she ran a 12-hectare farm and had four children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In October 2010, she celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary. Despite her age, Mrs. Zosia has always been ready to help and offer advice. Her home is located by the road leading to the Bóbr River. Mrs. Zosia always strikes up a conversation with residents walking there. She greets them with a warm smile and always has a kind word to say. Residents adore this woman so much that whenever the weather is nice and Mrs. Zosia is not outside, they become concerned.
She was awarded the “For Merits to Agricultural Circles” medal by the National Association of Farmers and Agricultural Circles Board. She was also a co-organizer of the Municipal Harvest Festival in Nowa in 1996. It was thanks to Zosia, her commitment and determination, and her assurances that we would manage to organize the Harvest Festival, that it actually happened. Thank you for that, Zosia!
Our Housewives’ Circle has a tradition of visiting its oldest members on their birthdays. The women—Antonina Rucińska, Danuta Skoczeń and Ewa Surma—went to visit the birthday celebrant and presented her with flowers and a sweet gift. The conversations with Mrs. Zosia lasted a long time. The visit turned out to be an unforgettable evening, full of memories about the history of the village and its residents. Naturally, they also sang “200 years!”.
And they add:
We wish Mrs. Zosia many years in good health and hope that a year from now we will once again be able to meet and reminisce together about the old days.
