Last Friday, 5 April, before 3 a.m., the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec was notified by employees of one of the local petrol stations that a masked man with a knife had entered and demanded money.

– The case files show that the perpetrator rendered the station employee helpless and, as a consequence of his actions, stole money in Polish currency and euros – reports Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – Immediately after the incident, the man ran out and hurried away in an unknown direction.

The duty officer at the command post promptly sent information about the incident to all patrols. The spokesperson: – And so, based on the report they received, officers from the District Officers’ Unit quickly linked the perpetrator to a traffic inspection they had conducted some time earlier.

During their night shift, the officers noticed a passenger Opel parked in such a way that its driver could closely observe the entire area around the road. Senior Constable Ł. Porębski:

However, when questioned about his choice of parking location, the driver remained tight-lipped. In conversation with the officers, he was unable to explain his manoeuvre logically. Since the way the vehicle was parked did not constitute a traffic offence, the officers’ official activities ended at that stage.

The information gathered led the officers to the perpetrator, a 31-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County. The stolen cash was found on the man. The result? The Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters:

The evidence collected by investigators enabled the prosecutor to charge the man with robbery using a dangerous weapon as a repeat offender, as he had previously been convicted of a similar offence. After analysing the case files, the court granted the prosecutor’s motion and applied the custodial preventive measure of temporary detention to the suspect.
