The incident occurred on the night of April 4–5 on the Chojnów–Złotoryja route. – According to findings by Złotoryja police officers, two young women were traveling in a Volkswagen passenger car. While reversing, the 19-year-old driver failed to exercise due caution, as a result of which she drove into a roadside ditch – reports aspirant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja.

She adds: – Fortunately, neither woman suffered any bodily injuries, but the driver’s behavior and the smell of alcohol indicated that she might have been under its influence.

A breathalyzer test confirmed the officers’ suspicions. The 19-year-old was intoxicated, and the device detected more than 1.2 per mille of alcohol in her exhaled air.

In connection with the crime committed, police seized the driver’s license, and criminal proceedings are underway. The court will decide the 19-year-old’s fate. Driving a vehicle while intoxicated is punishable by up to three years in prison, a court-ordered driving ban and a substantial financial penalty.
