Countdown timers for drivers have been installed and activated at the intersection of aleja Tysiąclecia and Chrobrego, Spółdzielcza and Asnyka streets in Bolesławiec. This is not the end of the changes. The so-called “green arrows” have also been removed there, resulting in many drivers receiving fines. All this is due to a camera system recording vehicles passing through the intersection. It was enough for a driver to enter just after the green arrow went out and before the full green light came on—for the system to register it as entering on a red light.
Let us add that scientific research shows that countdown timers neither improve road safety nor increase intersection capacity. Studies in Poland and around the world show that these devices can lead to dangerous driver behavior and do not have a positive effect on traffic flow. More on this subject in our article: Drivers want countdown timers at the traffic lights on Tysiąclecia. But they will not improve anything.
