The incident occurred on November 24, before 10 p.m. – Lubin police officers were notified by an Emergency Medical Team about an aggressive patient who attacked medics while being transported to hospital on the S3 road between Polkowice and Lubin – reports asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer for the Lubin District Police Headquarters.

Police determined that paramedics had been called to a man who, after a miners’ celebration, was heavily intoxicated. The 50-year-old was lying on the ground and, according to the callers, required medical assistance.

At the very beginning of the intervention, the patient behaved aggressively toward the medics. After he had been calmed down, he was transported to the ambulance so that further medical procedures could be carried out. After examining him, the paramedics decided to take the man to the Emergency Department.

During the transport, the patient threatened to kill the ambulance crew, began struggling and started demolishing specialist medical equipment. He struck a female paramedic and another paramedic who, finding themselves in danger, were forced to stop the ambulance and call for help.

Spokeswoman: – The duty officer immediately sent preventive patrols to the scene. During the intervention, the resident of Polkowice remained highly aggressive throughout – both toward the police officers and the medics. He violated a female police officer’s bodily integrity, continuously insulting the officers and paramedics.

The man was taken to the Emergency Department by a police patrol because the medical staff, due to the injuries they had suffered, were unable to continue carrying out the assignment.

The 50-year-old was placed in a police cell. After sobering up, he was charged with four offenses. He will be held responsible for injuring paramedics while they were performing their official duties, making criminal threats against them in the form of threats to take their lives, damaging property, violating a female officer’s bodily integrity and insulting the police officers who intervened.

During questioning, the man expressed remorse. He also voluntarily accepted the sentence proposed by the prosecutor from the Lubin District Prosecutor’s Office. The sentence: one year of imprisonment suspended for two years; an obligation to inform the court in writing about the course of the probation period once every quarter; compensation for the harm suffered in the amount of PLN 5,000 each for the emergency medical service officers and PLN 1,000 each for the police officers who intervened; an obligation to fully repair the damage caused to the ambulance by paying PLN 30,000, as well as paying court costs and fees. Officers: – In addition, the man has already paid a property bail of PLN 50,000.

They add:

Once again, people who provide help have been attacked and injured while doing their jobs. We remind you that when a paramedic provides first aid, qualified first aid or undertakes emergency medical procedures, they are entitled to the protection provided to a public official.
