The incident occurred on November 10. – At around 3:15 a.m., while driving through Dziwiszów, police officers noticed a Toyota and a man behind the wheel who, according to the information they had, was wanted for legal proceedings concerning property crimes – reports Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer for the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters.
She adds: – When he saw them, the driver accelerated sharply and turned into a side street. The officers activated their lights and siren and signaled him to stop. However, he did not react; instead, he accelerated and began to flee.
A moment later, the fleeing car hit a fence. He then tried to escape on foot. It did not help much. The 32-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra was arrested.
It turned out that the Toyota driver had methamphetamine with him. Moreover, his behavior indicated that he might have got behind the wheel under the influence of intoxicants.
Sub-Inspector E. Bagrowska:
The man was wanted by officers from the Criminal Division of Police Station I in Jelenia Góra because he was suspected of crimes against his former partner, which he committed at the beginning of November this year. The 32-year-old broke into and robbed her apartment, taking property worth nearly PLN 9,000 as well as the keys to her car, which he used to steal the vehicle.
The officers recovered some of the stolen property. The 32-year-old was taken into police custody. He now faces up to 10 years in prison. (And if the blood test confirms that the detainee was driving after taking drugs, he will also be charged with that offense.)
