The incident occurred on October 27. Firefighters from Nowogrodziec:
(...) at around 11 a.m., we were dispatched to an unconscious person at one of the companies in Nowogrodziec.
They added: – Upon arriving at the scene, the injured person was immediately evacuated from the basement area. Our multi-gas detector showed repeatedly elevated carbon monoxide (CO) readings.
As there were no signs of vital functions, the Nowogrodziec officers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The firefighters added: – After a while, the emergency medical team arrived at the scene. We also had to put out the fire in the furnace and ventilate the entire building until the atmosphere inside was safe.
Unfortunately, after about an hour of efforts by the firefighters and paramedics, the person was pronounced dead.
The firefighters from Nowogrodziec summed up:
The nature of the incident shows how dangerous carbon monoxide, or CO, is.
You cannot see, hear or smell it!
A carbon monoxide detector can save a life!
Firefighters from both Nowogrodziec units, an emergency medical team and the police took part in the operation. The police are investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident.
