The media regularly report on aggression and attacks against paramedics. Paramedics not only have to listen to vulgarities and threats directed at them. They also fall victim to physical violence. These situations are outrageous, because a paramedic is providing assistance to the person attacking them...

The Bolesławiec Emergency Medical Teams report precisely this kind of behaviour by one of the patients:

Last weekend, from Friday to Saturday, another attack on paramedics working at Szpital św. Łukasza w Bolesławcu took place in our county. The paramedics were attacked while providing assistance to an injured man. During the attack, the man damaged the interior of the ambulance, struck a female paramedic in the face and kicked a paramedic in the chest.

The police were called to the scene. After the man had been provided with assistance under police officers’ protection, he was detained for clarification, and the court will deal with the entire matter.

A reminder:

While performing rescue activities and in connection with performing them, paramedics enjoy the same legal and criminal protection against violation of bodily integrity or insults as other public officials. This is provided for by Article 5 of the Act of 8 September 2006 on the State Emergency Medical Services.

This protection also applies to anyone providing first aid. Insulting a public official is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to one year.

Violating the bodily integrity of a public official during or in connection with the performance of official duties is punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment.
