The incident occurred several weeks ago in Lubomierz Municipality. The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report concerning a man who was allegedly beaten by three people.

However, the reporting party was unable to describe the alleged perpetrators accurately. It was known, though, that the 55-year-old resident of Lwówek County had serious facial injuries and was bleeding heavily.

Police officers and an emergency medical team were dispatched to the scene.

Man spoke of masked attackers

At the scene, officers found the reporting party and the injured man. The 55-year-old told the officers that three unknown masked men had entered his apartment. The attackers had allegedly ordered him to hurt himself. (The man gouged out his own eye with a fork and ate it).

The man was given assistance and then transported to hospital by an emergency medical team.

Police began searching for the attackers

After receiving information about a possible assault, police officers began checking whether third parties could actually have been involved in the incident.

Among others, police officers spoke with a neighbor. The neighbor had not noticed any unfamiliar men recently—either in the apartment or in the stairwell.

However, the neighbor provided officers with information about the 55-year-old’s behavior the previous day. The man had allegedly run around the stairwell and knocked on neighbors’ doors, claiming that a little girl who was the devil was in his apartment. But when the neighbor entered the apartment in question, he found no one else there.

Police found no evidence of third-party involvement

Officers from the investigative unit and a forensic technician from the Lwówek police worked at the scene. Their task was to determine the course and circumstances of the incident.

According to police, the actions carried out revealed no traces indicating the involvement of third parties.

The officers’ findings indicated that the 55-year-old’s injuries resulted from self-harm, and that his behavior may have been connected to a serious mental health crisis.
