In September last year, we reported that the Paid Parking Zone would not be expanded to include Ślusarska Street. The issue returned at the August meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, right at the very beginning of the proceedings.

Why? One of the items on today’s agenda was a vote on a draft resolution concerning the removal of Ślusarska Street in Bolesławiec from the category of municipal road. The document provided for the aforementioned road to be managed by Bolesławiec County.

One opposition councillor mentioned that when a draft resolution on expanding the Paid Parking Zone to Ślusarska Street appeared last autumn, the residents of the street reacted negatively. He asked the mayor whether he had obtained an assurance from the starost, that is, the prospective manager of Ślusarska Street in spe, that paid parking spaces would not be created there.

Piotr Roman replied that Ślusarska Street needed to be renovated. He said that classifying it as a county road would help Bolesławiec County obtain funding for this purpose.

At that point, a councillor from another opposition club joined the discussion and suggested that perhaps it would be worth waiting for an assurance from the new manager that there would be no paid parking there.

Piotr Roman: – I do not really understand how you came up with this idea. Who would introduce such a solution? The starost? On the basis of what regulations? We might just as well say that there will be no space-rocket launchers there.

He added: – You came up with this for political purposes.

He also stressed that it would be a strategic street. This is connected with the ambitious plans of the director of St. Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec.

He added: – You do not have an assurance from the mayor, because I do not know whether I will be mayor in seven months. And I do not know where this idea came from. I have repeatedly proved that I respect the residents’ opinions.

Ultimately, the resolution was not removed from the agenda, and all the councillors—including those from the opposition—voted in favour.
