Police officers from Nowogrodziec, working with the Forest Guard from Świętoszów, are undertaking activities aimed at combating crime in forest areas. KPP Bolesławiec: – Recently, Forest Guard officers caught a resident of Osiecznica municipality stealing cable and handed him over to the police.
The officers add: – The evidence collected by investigators from Nowogrodziec against the 31-year-old provided grounds for charging him with stealing cable worth PLN 20,000. Together with the second man, the suspect used a farm plough attached to a car to make it easier to dig up the cables.
The police findings led to the 31-year-old’s accomplice, who turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of a neighboring village. The officers: – A search of his property not only confirmed that the man had acted together with the suspect caught at the crime scene, but also enabled the police to prove that he had committed further thefts.
The 30-year-old proved even more inventive. As the police established, from April to June 2023 he took advantage of the modernization of a high-voltage line, stealing various components of new steel poles. KPP: – Over several weeks, the perpetrator used his van to transport 5 tonnes of valuable property, causing total losses of more than PLN 100,000.
It also adds: – The suspect admitted to the alleged offence and explained that initially he stole, among other things, angle bars to make a fence. However, he decided that he could also sell the individual elements and make money.
The finale? In the yard used by the 30-year-old, the officers also secured fragments of railway rail. Bolesławiec police: – The detective’s thoroughness also led to the determination in this case that the property came from a crime. In May this year, the perpetrator cut approximately 30 metres of railway track from a disused line, then divided it into sections and transported it to his place of residence. The losses were valued at PLN 3,000.
The perpetrator explained to the police that he wanted to use the rails in question to reinforce the ground beneath a parking area in his yard.
Both men face up to five years in prison.
