– Patrols in marked and unmarked police cars could be seen, among other places, in the vicinity of the A4 and A8 motorways and the S8, S5 and S3 expressways, supported by unmanned aircraft pilots – reports asp. szt. Łukasz Dutkowiak, spokesperson for KWP Wrocław.
He adds: – The task of the officers taking part in the operation entitled “Safely on the motorway and expressway” was to enforce compliance with road traffic regulations, including the ban on overtaking by heavy goods vehicles on motorways and expressways, which has been in force since 1 July this year. The officers checked a total of 825 vehicles and detected more than 530 various offences, including 130 speeding violations and nearly 60 offences related to overtaking. They also detained 5 intoxicated drivers, 3 driving licences and 67 registration certificates…
They also remind drivers:
“A driver of a category N2 or N3 vehicle is prohibited from overtaking a motor vehicle on a motorway or expressway with only two lanes intended for traffic in that direction, unless that vehicle is travelling at a speed significantly lower than the permitted speed for category N2 or N3 vehicles applicable on that road. The prohibition does not apply to overtaking vehicles carrying out road cleaning, repair or modernization work and displaying yellow flashing signals.”
If a truck driver overtakes on a motorway or expressway with only two lanes intended for traffic in that direction, they must expect a fine of PLN 1,000 and 8 penalty points. If the same offence is committed again, the fine increases to PLN 2,000 and a further 8 penalty points will be added to the driver’s record.
